Upstate Niagara Sweeps Dairy Awards Season

BUFFALO, NY – Western New York’s preeminent dairy processor, Upstate Niagara Cooperative, has been recognized yet again for their production of superior quality products.

The Buffalo-based dairy cooperative took top honors in five categories at the 2013 Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. The company won Dairy Day Awards in a variety of categories at the regional competition, including top awards for Upstate Farms yogurt, Bison dip and Upstate Farms buttermilk. Their Rochester-based fluid milk plant also received a silver award for their fluid milk products. Upstate Niagara’s sour cream, marketed under the Bison brand label, received top honors with an Award of Excellence for a score of 96.

The cooperative’s Bison brand recently swept the 2013 World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI as well. Bison’s Creamy Dill Dip not only won First Place in the refrigerated dip category with a score of 99.35, but also was selected as the Grade A Grand Champion beating 820 international competitors. It’s the second year in a row that Upstate Niagara Cooperative took the honor, and the first time in the history of the contest any company has captured the coveted award back-to-back.

Bison’s other dip flavors including local favorites French Onion and Garlic Parmesan received first and second place respectively while their chive cottage cheese, pineapple cottage cheese and Upstate Farms Half and Half offerings all placed with honors at the World Dairy Expo as well.

Jim Murphy, Upstate Niagara Cooperative’s Chief Scientific Officer said, “As a farmer-owned cooperative rooted in New York State, we take enormous pride in winning the New York State Fair Dairy Day Awards. We have a long history of winning awards in New York State and we are equally proud that our products are recognized on a world wide front based on the awards we received at the World Dairy Expo.”
